Regrets

Today, is October 27th, 2020. Today is my sister’s birthday. She would have been 51 today. But that was not to be. Amy died just about 4 and 1/2 months ago, on June 15th. And this is my 4th attempt to write my feelings about this. This one got published.

Ford Driving Skills For Life

My Daughter recently turned 16 and is diligently working to get her driver’s license. As any parent of a teen driver can tell you, this is one of the most contradiction inducing situations you may ever face as a parent. On one front, you are absolutely terrified that the kid who can’t even seem to find the ketchup in the pantry is going to be driving a 2 ton hunk of steel at 60 mph down a highway with hundreds of other idiots all around her. And on the other, you look forward to the day when you do not have to drive her or her brother to every single practice, class, lesson, trip or endeavor in the world. Finally a little free time you have earned… Read More…

a LOOOOONG time coming

The title of this post has multiple meanings. First, it has been a great long while since I have even posted on my blog. There are a myriad of reasons for that - but they all boil down to time. Or how little of it I have had to write. Second, it is in reference to a massive change in my life that has been building inside me for years, and has finally been put into action. Finally, the title reflects the very long time I spent building and growing a company, and the process it took to separate my identity and self worth from that of the company. Read More…

There's a flaw in their logic.

I have never been a smoker. Honestly, it is a habit I just do not quite understand. The smell is terrible, the ashes are dirty, the price is outrageous, and it is just plain disgusting to me. However there is a trend among smokers that just makes me laugh. You know the part where a person has to sit outside their own home to smoke. Read More…

#Hashtag

You know the little tic-tac-toe board located above the ‘3’ key on a standard keyboard? We called it a ‘pound sign’ growing up, or a ‘number sign’, today they call them ‘hashtags’ and they have a purpose, but i don’t think my Facebook friends understand. Read More…

Why I Hate the Grocery Store

It is a long standing belief that men don't do the grocery shopping. Arguably in my parents generation this was the rule, in my generation I do see more of my male friends shopping - and I if I see them there, that means I was there too. But generally speaking, more often than not, the wife does the grocery shopping. Read More…

I found the PERFECT electronic device!

Now I thought i was in-tune with the tech-world. I read more tech related blogs on the inter-webs than most ‘normal guys’. Somehow or another I missed this perfect piece of kit. As I sat at dinner with some very good friends she began to tell me about a device that limits the time my kids spend on specific websites, apps, and devices in general. She says (very nicely, I might add ) “You never heard of Circle???”. I was mortified. Here was my friend and fellow blogger, who knows I am the technology guy, schooling ME on tech. I felt deflated, inferior, and shamed. I wanted to crawl under the table, curl up in a ball and cry. But instead, I pulled out my trusty iPhone and ordered the $99 device right then and there (the site even supported ApplePay which made my purchase a simple thumbprint scan, and it was done!) Now I had to wait - and change the subject at dinner to something less damning. Read More…

Let Stop Calling Them Teens

I try desperately not to get my news from your typical local TV station. I read most of my news on the interwebs, and while EVERYTHING you read or hear today has an opinion spun into it, somehow reading it myself makes it easier to separate the news from the spin. (At least I tell myself this!) Read More…

Poseur…French for douchebag?

I have spent quite a few years attending the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas. SEMA is the trade organization that represents the automotive aftermarket - everything from brakes and tires to pinstripes and step bars. Like any organization, especially one that represents as large and as diverse a group of companies, buyers and consumers as SEMA does, there are people from all walks of life, profession, and personal achievement. There might be hope...

On labor day my family was invited to participate in a Kick Ball tournament with a large group of friends. There were 6 different teams and at least 10 per team. It was perfectly designed so I did not have to participate with my family, but got to compete against them. This made the games that much more fun - nothing like talking smack to your 11 year old - who subsequently beats your team 18-3! Read More…

I think they are missing the point!

Today I was standing in line at a local home improvement store. There was a (seemingly) nice couple in front of me in line. I chit chatted with them as I was waiting for my turn in line. The nice couple paid and proceeded to leave the store. As they passed through the electronic monitoring gates the alarms started to sound. They kept walking. Out the door they went. The ‘door man’, who’s job it is to stop these people, looked over at my cashier and she says - “they didn't have anything that I was supposed to scan - there was nothing for me to deactivate the tag on!” Read More…

Look out for what?

You see it EVERYWHERE during the warmer months. It is plastered on bill boards, bumper stickers, and even yard signs: Look out for motorcycles! And I truly get it, motorcycles are rolling blind spots. You look in your mirrors and they are nowhere to be found. Too narrow to show up where a car would, to fast to even focus on the fleeting glimpse. Read More…

Can't we just be friends???

There is an extremely annoying trend going on over at Facebook. It seems that everybody and their brother has a new ‘at home’ business, a new product to market to everyone on their friend list. Read More…

Living Lefty in a Righty World

As I am certain the title gives away, I am technically left-handed. However, I am probably considered to be more ambidextrous in the true sense of the word. For those things that define you as being left handed - write, eat, drink - I do left handed. But as life as a left hander has taught me, there are many things that are just easier to do right handed. Read More…

Game of Thrones

I just returned today from a 2 week vacation. It was a fun, educational, and interesting trip - but after two weeks nothing felt better than to come home to MY bathroom. Read More…

Welcome to Douggiestyle

Well the day is FINALLY here. I have talked about this for several years now, and I have finally pulled the trigger. Many of my friends have heard me discuss the possibility of publishing my own blog and have they waited patiently for me to get it done. However, as most things in my life, I have grandiose plans and little time to execute. Read More…
