26.2 in your face beyotch!

So I get it. Running a marathon is a feat of physical prowess. I fully admit that I could never do it. I think about it from time to time, and then I think about how much I hate to run. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never run a marathon, a half marathon, or even a 10K. At the bare minimum it is not in my future plans, however you just never know for sure.

BUT… if I did I will NEVER be one who puts a 26.2 sticker on my vehicle. Let me explain. First - a disclaimer - to all of my friends who are runners (and that crazy guy I know who has run 100 marathons ) I totally respect your achievement. This is not about my wonder and amazement at your apparent domination over a challenge, it is more about why do you think anyone else gives a crap about knowing that you ran a marathon?

I can think of all kinds of accomplishments that people achieve in their lives - not a single one of them is it common practice to brag about on your vehicle. Hey! I graduated grade school - no sticker. I made it through high school too - nope still nothing. I got a college degree - they don’t make a sticker for that either. I own a small business, I have a really good credit score, my wife is gorgeous, I’ve been married for 20 years, my kids aren’t juvenile delinquents, I have a 10”…. get my point yet?

If running a marathon, and taking on the monstrous challenge is all about YOUR goals and YOUR achievement, then isn't the satisfaction of doing it enough for your pride? Just exactly what part of this do you think we all really care about? And for those who have the 13.1 on your car…do you ever feel like a loser? I mean you only made it half way and you still want to brag? If I only made it half way through something there is not way I would be bragging. FYI half marathon people - your glass is really half empty - but I am pulling for ya!

Ok, time for me to grab a drink and sit by the pool while you go train some more!
